About Me
Hi, I’m Sophie and I’m a certified modern pilates instructor and certified personal trainer. In my past life, I was a classically trained dancer and later a circus performer. I trained as an acrobat (specializing in tissu/aerial silks) for 12 years before retiring from performing in 2024. I’ve been practicing classical pilates (all modalities) for most of my life as a form of cross training, but fell in love with modern pilates because it gave me the intensity I was looking for while still being easy on the joints after years of dancing on concrete and a very serious shoulder injury.
I have always loved teaching, in multiple modalities. Prior to becoming a trainer, I worked as a math tutor and aerial coach for 6 years collectively. With all that said, being a “good” trainer did not come naturally to me. Starting out, I struggled to find myself on the mic. It took me a long time to figure out who I was as a trainer, until I realized it was the same as stepping on stage. I believe being authentic to yourself, finding your niche, and knowing your power as a trainer are the most important practices in developing yourself. These and, of course, knowing your stuff!
Throughout my years of teaching, I have always encouraged my clients to know WHY they do what they do. Why am I telling you to slow down, why is power effective in this exercise, why am I sequencing exercises this way, why am I limiting the range of motion, etc? But when I started I did not know the answers to these questions. I have devoted the last year and a half to deeply understanding not only the how but the WHY and want to pass this knowledge along to fellow trainers.
A little about me as a trainer: I LOVE power (hence the name PWRhouse). If you want to learn about tempo change, I'm your girl! Though power is my niche, I also specialize in sequencing, pre/post natal training, and exercise modifcations/intensifications. Find all of these topics and more in my course list!
Why PWRhouse?
Initially, I started my Instagram @pwrhouse_pilates as a resource for new trainers and a way to connect with those who are just starting on the mic. After I got certified, I still felt very lost and wanted to give new trainers the resources I wish I had. I've dedicated the last year and a half to deeply understanding every aspect of modern pilates, continuing my education, and learning all the components that come together to make someone a "good" trainer.
In doing this, I realized there were many gray areas within the method. For instance, I've had one trainer tell me that pregnant clients can perform every exercise without modification and another say that they should not take class once they reach the third trimester. I've been in a class with a power Super Lunge programmed, and I've also been told that power moves negate the science behind the method. This was a driving force for me to create this platform and offer courses; hopefully expanding our education in these topics will help reduce the gray area.

My ultimate goal with PWRhouse is to give trainers the tools to make their class the way they want, which ultimately starts with knowing your sh*t. I want you to grasp every aspect of this method inside, outside, forward, backward, and sideways. Understanding how to do something is one thing, but understanding why is where the true PWR lies.
